Backing up your server

This is possibly the most important administration task you'll have to perform on your server. There are several options open to you. They are:

Remote Backup

You can download all of your data from the server (excluding the Operating System) over the Internet to your site. The only expense involved here is bandwidth. How much bandwidth you use and therefore how much it might cost varies widely depending on your data.

Network Backup

We provide a number of Network Backup Servers for our customers use. These can be accessed by NFS, FTP or Windows Filesharing. We can assist you in the configuration of your backup software if needed.

Tape Backup

We can fit DAT drive to your server. You can then decide how you would like your data backup up. We will rotate your tapes for you on a daily basis, acting on your instructions.

Rebooting Your Server

If for whatever reason you need to reboot your server, there are two options available.

You can phone or e-mail us anytime and request that we reset the computer for you. Between the hours of 7am to 8pm this is a free service. At other times, there is a reboot charge of £10.

The other alternative is that you take advantage of our Remote Powercyle option. For an extra £15 per month your server will be connected to a remote power distibution controller. You will then be able to reboot your server via a secure web site or an ssh connection.
